Demand for housing in the San Antonio area continues to drive up home prices and sales.

Last month, 2,430 single-family homes sold, a 27 percent jump compared to the same period last year when there were 1,907 sales, according to data from the San Antonio Board of Realtors. During the second quarter, 79,760 homes were sold in Texas, a nearly 18 percent jump compared to the same period last year.

The median price for existing homes also increased to $178,000, an 8 percent increase from July 2012. The rise in home prices locally is on par with the state and national trend, which saw prices jump about 10 percent, according to the Texas Association of Realtors.

In July, homes spent an average 71 days on the market and there was 5.1 months of inventory."  Good news for SA.
